Thigh Lift
Reshaping the inner thighs to improve comfort, movement, and overall balance
Changes in the inner thighs can be gradual, but over time they can become difficult to ignore. Skin may begin to feel loose or unsupported, especially after weight loss or as elasticity changes. You may notice friction when walking, discomfort during activity, or a feeling that the area does not move the way it once did.
Even when you stay active and take care of your health, this is an area that does not always respond in the way you expect. Clothing may fit differently, movement may feel less comfortable, and the contour of the thighs may no longer feel in balance with the rest of your body.
When those changes begin to affect how you feel day to day, it is reasonable to look for a solution that brings both comfort and a more supported shape.
A thigh lift removes excess skin and reshapes the inner thighs to create a smoother, more stable contour. At PIPS, Partners in Plastic Surgery of West Michigan, the approach is thoughtful and precise, with attention to how the result will look, feel, and function over time.
Who May Consider a Thigh Lift
A thigh lift may be appropriate when the inner thighs feel loose, heavy, or difficult to manage, particularly after significant weight loss or with changes in skin quality over time.
You may notice ongoing irritation, chafing, or discomfort with movement. Standing, walking, or exercising may require more adjustment than before. In other cases, the concern is how the thighs look in clothing or how they relate to the rest of the lower body.
A careful evaluation helps determine whether removing excess skin will improve both comfort and contour, and whether additional contouring may be helpful.
Evaluation and Planning
Planning begins with a close look at the quality of the skin, the amount of excess tissue, and how the thighs relate to the rest of the body.
Some patients benefit from a more limited approach focused on the upper inner thigh, while others require a more extended correction to address more significant laxity. These differences are discussed openly so the plan feels clear and appropriate for your situation.
Incision placement is considered carefully, with attention to how the area heals and how scars will sit in relation to natural contours and clothing.
Surgical Approach
A thigh lift is performed with careful attention to both contour and support.
Surgery is typically performed under general anesthesia in our private, on site surgical facility. If additional monitoring is needed, the procedure may be performed in a hospital setting.
In many cases, liposuction is used at the beginning of the procedure to refine contour and reduce excess fat. This helps create a smoother foundation before excess skin is removed.
The remaining tissue is then reshaped, and the skin is repositioned to create a more supported and balanced contour. When appropriate, deeper sutures are used to help support the tissues as they heal.
Every step is performed with attention to symmetry and natural transitions along the thigh.
Recovery and results
Recovery takes time, and it is important to allow the body to heal gradually.
You can expect some swelling and a feeling of tightness early on. Compression garments are used to support healing and help the contour settle. Light daily activities are often resumed within about ten to fourteen days, with continued improvement over the following weeks.
As healing progresses, the thighs feel more supported and comfortable with movement. Friction often improves, and the contour becomes smoother and more balanced.
Scars take time to soften and fade, and you will be guided through each stage of recovery so you know what to expect.
Safety and Follow Up
This procedure requires careful planning, particularly when it comes to skin removal and closure. Risks and limitations are discussed openly so expectations remain clear.
Follow up visits allow healing to be monitored closely and provide support as you return to normal activity.
Insurance Information
A thigh lift is generally considered a cosmetic procedure and is not covered by insurance.
If you are considering surgery, the cost of the procedure and related care will be your responsibility. During your consultation, pricing and payment options will be reviewed with you in detail so you have a clear understanding before deciding how you would like to move forward.
Where the procedure is performed
Thigh lift procedures are typically performed in our private, on site surgical facility located on the lower level of the PIPS office building in Grand Rapids, West Michigan. This allows your care to take place in a familiar and well coordinated setting.
