Brow
Lift
Restoring a more open, rested expression
You may begin thinking about a brow lift when your upper face no longer feels aligned with your energy or how you see yourself. The area above your eyes may seem heavier than it once did, or your expression may appear tired or tense in photos even on days when you feel well rested. These changes often happen gradually and can be difficult to pinpoint at first.
Over time, the brow can settle lower due to aging, genetics, or repeated muscle movement. As this occurs, the space between the lashes and the brow becomes shorter, and the eyes can look less open. You may notice that makeup sits differently, or that your face carries a seriousness that does not reflect how you actually feel. Bringing gentle support back to this area can help restore a lighter, refreshed appearance that still feels natural and familiar.
A brow lift repositions the brow and softens the upper forehead with careful attention to proportion. This can ease heaviness over the upper eyelids and smooth deeper horizontal lines or frown creases. When the brow sits in a balanced position, the eyes often appear brighter and the overall expression feels more relaxed and at ease.
At PIPS (Partners in Plastic Surgery of West Michigan), brow lift surgery begins with listening and thoughtful evaluation. Forehead shape, hairline position, muscle activity, and overall facial structure are carefully reviewed before any plan is made. Elevation is measured and conservative, supporting natural expression and fluid movement so your features continue to look like your own, simply more rested.
Surgical approach
Every brow lift at PIPS begins with a careful assessment of how your brow sits at rest and how it moves with expression. Muscle activity, skin quality, forehead shape, and hairline position all influence the surgical plan. If eyelid surgery is also being considered, this is evaluated at the same time to ensure the upper face feels balanced as a whole.
Targeted or extended techniques
When the outer portion of the brow is the primary concern, a temporal brow lift may be appropriate. Small incisions in the temple area allow focused elevation of the lateral brow, creating subtle improvement in contour and openness around the eyes.
When the brow has settled more noticeably, or when the hairline position plays a role in the overall balance of the forehead, a more comprehensive lifting approach may be recommended. This allows the entire forehead area to be gently elevated in a controlled way. The placement of the incision is planned with care so it blends naturally within the hair or along the hairline, supporting a smooth, balanced appearance as healing progresses.
When only a small lift is needed, support to the brow can sometimes be added during upper eyelid surgery. Through the same opening used for the eyelids, the brow is gently secured in a slightly higher position. This allows subtle improvement without creating any new visible incisions.
Most brow lift procedures take approximately one to two hours, depending on the technique selected and whether other procedures are performed at the same time.
Recovery and results
Swelling and a sense of tightness or pressure across the forehead are common during the first week. Bruising varies and gradually improves. Light daily activities can typically resume within several days, with return to exercise guided by your surgeon.
As healing progresses, the brow position appears softer and more open. The eyes often look brighter, and the upper face feels less heavy. The overall effect supports a rested, balanced expression that fits comfortably with your features.
Safety and follow up
All surgery carries risk, and these are reviewed clearly during consultation. With careful planning and contemporary technique, concerns such as asymmetry, temporary numbness, visible scarring, or excessive elevation are reduced. Conservative positioning and precise tissue handling support stable, balanced results.
You will receive detailed postoperative instructions regarding incision care, activity level, and follow up appointments. Scheduled visits allow healing to be monitored closely and questions to be addressed at each stage.
Insurance information
At this time, insurance is not accepted for cosmetic brow lift procedures. During your consultation, costs and payment options will be reviewed clearly so you understand what to expect before moving forward.
