* This lovely 55 year old woman had a diagnosis of cancer in her left breast. As treatment for her cancer she required bilateral mastectomies. Her cancer surgeon worked with one of our reconstructive surgeon to devise a plan for immediate breast reconstruction. Her mastectomies would consist of removal of the breast tissue and her nipple and areolas leaving the skin of the breasts behind. As soon as the mastectomies were completed temporary devices called tissue expanders were put in place. Fluid was added to the tissue expanders over the next few months. Six months later her expanders were replaced with smooth round gel breast implants. Some of her own fat was added to the mastectomy flaps to soften the contours of her breasts. She is now seven months out from her second procedure. She has decided against nipple and areola reconstruction at this time. Meanwhile she has a beautiful breast shape without the need for external devices to give her an attractive bust line.
