Gynecomastia

For men, having large breasts (a condition known as gynecomastia) is a reason Michigan men consider cosmetic surgery. Although breast enlargement has many causes such as psychologic changes from aging or side effects from drugs/medications, the most common reason is weight gain and obesity. Unfortunately, the appearance of enlarged breasts sometimes persists despite diet and exercise. Male breast reduction can help restore a more defined chest contour and may result in a dramatic improvement in social and psychological well-being.

Our plastic surgeons understand that every case is different and strive to give each patient a unique, one-of-a-kind experience. We have extensive experience with this procedure, have board-certified anesthesiologists on staff, and perform surgeries in our fully accredited facility. To learn more about male breast reduction, request a consultation online or call us at (616) 464-4420.

Male Breast Reduction Procedure

Depending on the cause of the enlarged breasts, our surgeons may use a variety of procedures to eliminate excess tissue for your male breast reduction procedure. Plastic surgeons often utilize liposuction to remove the excess fatty tissue. Excess skin and tissue may also need to be surgically excised. In some cases the nipple and areola may need to be resized or repositioned after reducing the breast tissue volume. While this is the case for many patients, you and your gynecomastia surgeon in Michigan will decide upon the best method for you.

Gynecomastia surgery in Michigan is sometimes covered by insurance. It can be done on an outpatient basis with very little down-time and as little as 1 to 2 days off work. After the procedure, patients will bandaged and may need to wear a compression garment. Your surgeon will provide you with specific instructions for a rapid and easy recovery.
