* This 44 year old woman had a right breast cancer. The decision was made with her general surgeon to proceed with bilateral mastectomies and she decided to have immediate breast reconstruction. In her case the skin of her nipple & areola complexes did not need to be removed so she underwent subcutaneous (saving all of the skin of the breasts) mastectomies. A breast lift was also incorporated into her reconstruction plan. Bilateral latissimus dorsi muscles covering tissue expanders were used to fill in the empty skin envelopes. Six months later her second stage consisted simply of replacing her tissue expanders with smooth round silicone gel implants and a couple of scar revisions.
